Headset Spacers

An often overlooked aspect of any bicycle is the headset spacers. Usually an afterthought to most, these headset spacers can be crucial to the way a bicycle fits and feels. Often times, these stem spacers are just created equally but there are subtle differences that set others apart. Here is a break down of the commonalities of headset spacers.

Spacers are used on all bikes, like road bikes and mountain bikes, and are designed to raise up the stem in order to set the bar height. Their primary purpose though is to keep the steerer tube from moving around inside the head tube. These spacers come in a multitude of sizes, colors, and materials to suit your every need. Spacers will come in 3mm, 5mm, 10mm, and just about any height you need, but you can also stack spacers on top of one another to add height. Spacer kits will come with several different sizes in order to fill up the space on the steerer tube, however, you might not need to use them all. Typically spacers will have a 1 1/8-inch inner diameter to so the spacers fit 1 1/8-inch steerer tubes.

Headset spacers will come in different materials. Aluminum headset spacers are the most common, but carbon headset spacers are highly sought after. They are available in a plethora of colors such as the colors black, red, purple, gold, silver, blue, and even the color carbon. After you get your aluminum or carbon fiber headset spacer, make sure that the stem and headset spacers fit your steerer tube and then put the top cap on top of them and lock it down.

Headsets spacers, for the most part, are straightforward and incredibly easy to install on any bike. They are a great way to add a splash of color and style to any ride.
