They’re not as high-tech as a fancy new wheelset or suspension fork, but don’t overlook the importance of mountain bike grips. This humble component is one of your main connections to the bike, something you hold onto for the entirety of every ride, and a new set of these is a great way to add fresh style and comfort to your mountain bike. Similar to bar tape, bicycle grips add a layer of comfort and control to the handlebar. You wouldn’t just ride a bike with bare handlebars.
MTB grips come in a plethora of styles and shapes. Some riders prefer them to be thinner for direct feedback and a close connection to the terrain you are riding. Others prefer the added cushioning and shock absorption of a thicker grip. If you’re the type who changes grips frequently, or who rides rugged terrain that tends to wear them out fast, lock-on grips are probably your best bet. Grips like the ODI Ruffian Lock-On are immensely popular amongst many riders. They are made with an inner liner beneath the top layer and they mount to your handlebars with metal lock rings that attach to the side of the grips and small screws to tighten them. Once they are tightened onto your bar, they won’t budge. The other advantage is they’re fast and easy to install and remove.
If you prefer something simpler and lighter-weight, consider slide-on grips. Silicone-style slide-ons like those from ESI Chunky grips are a popular choice for their soft, comfortable feel. This style is typically lighter weight but often requires some sort of lubricant to install. Hairspray or rubbing alcohol usually works. Since these are lighter-weight in nature, they are often sought-after by many XC riders.
Beyond the standard round profile, Jenson USA also carries ergonomic grips that are often favored by endurance riders, plus some come with built-in bar ends. These ergo grips have a wider contact area so the pressure is dispersed more evenly throughout the hand making longer rides feel more comfortable. We offer every style and material choice, from top brands like ODI, Lizard Skins, Ergon, ESI, Oury and many more. Handlebar grips are offered in a multitude of colors like black, green, blue, red, and just about any color you can think of. If you’re thinking of changing your bike’s color scheme, then these are a good place to start. Add a little color to a bland color bike and spice it up.
